About the Skateboarding Skeleton Artwork: In 1977, VCJ created two black-and-white posters to promote Bones wheels. Inspired by this theme, Vernon Courtlandt Johnson developed the concept of a skateboarding skeleton about a year later. To bring his vision to life, Johnson purchased a life-sized skeleton named Rosie from a medical supply shop. After rigging Rosie into a skateboarding pose, VCJ meticulously illustrated the skeleton, completing the artwork towards the end of 1978. This piece became iconic as the first illustration under the newly established Powell Peralta brand, adorning Bones stickers and T-shirts ever since.
